A free opening reception takes place Friday, January 16, 2015 from 6pm to 9pm. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday from 11am to 4pm.
Do you ever get a little snippet of a song or movie stuck on a loop in your head? Wes Stitt does. He observes if one little snippet sticks around long enough, it might start to twist and stretch and divide and mutate. This is similarly seen in his series of videos within “Turn It On Again,” a map of obsessive, repetitive attention, a record of those moments when one’s thinking seems to speed up or slow down, and when everything happens at once. Stitt chooses simple, catchy bits of found video and music, layers and mirrors them, and sets them out of phase with each other in time, where they build up complex new visual and musical patterns. As these patterns repeat and fall out of sync, events that were sequential start to happen simultaneously; visual and musical rhythms and harmonies are born from the changing relationship between simple, identical phrases.
